Fever

Fever (also known as pyrexia, or a febrile response) is defined as an increase in internal body temperature to levels that are above normal, caused by chemicals known as pyrogens that flow in the blood stream. The increased body temperature is caused by those pyrogens which binds to certain receptors in the brain. Normal temperatures of cats and dogs ranges from 100.5 and 102.5 degrees. Pets that have fever are listless, withdrawn, comes uninterested in food, has muscle aches or pains and a rapid breathing rate. | ||
The treatmentSooth away the heat with a cool compress on their belly or a 10 minute cool bath. Ensure they are drinking enough water. Consult your vet, as fever can mean serious illness and/or infection. |
